Dr. Sten Ekberg posted a new Youtube video "I Ate Bacon, Eggs & Butter and Here Is What Happened To My Blood". In this video, he switched from a 10-day standard American diet (S.A.D) to a 30-day ketogenic diet with a lot of bacon, eggs and butter to undo the damage S.A.D. did on his body. Here is my take home message from this video.
The biomarkers that he focused on were: Fasting insulin, triglyceride, VLDL, HOMA-IR, AST, ALT and LDH.
Merely 10 day's of S.A.D. can do a very big damage. All of the above mentioned biomarkers went to the wrong direction and exceeding his normal range. The most alarming one is LDH, which stands for Lactate dehydrogenase. In the graphs, the green zone is the optimal range. The orange zone is the ok range, and the red zone is the bad range to avoid.
Why high LDH is not good? Because it indicates there is excess cell breakage happening, and there is excess of glucose and/or lack of oxygen in the body. That is why the LDH test is mainly used to help identify the location and severity of tissue damage in the body. And it's also sometimes used to monitor how far certain conditions have progressed, including kidney disease, liver disease, and some types of cancer.
After 30-day's of ketogenic diet, all the biomarkers are back to the optimal zone
To reverse the damage, it takes longer. So try not to make any damage or less damage at the first place.
